Humanize Knowledge Management

Knowledge Management is more than creating a massive database of facts that staff can search when they need to. An effective knowledge management effort has to have a human side, one that acknowledges that EVERYONE has something to contribute, whether they are 20 or 60, the receptionist or the president, a newcomer or a long-term employee.

Get started by having face-to-face meetings with your staff.Go around the room and have each person discuss what's going on in their department. Not only will it encourage the sharing of ideas, it will provide perspective to all staff regarding the "Big Picture" and help everyone realize they are in this together. Finally, have these meetings regularly, and make sure staff can see the value of the meetings by demonstrating how what is learned in the meetings is added to the knowledge base of the organization.
