Improve the Relationship with Your Vendor

I often tell people that the most important element of their association management system is not the technology it's based on; it's the people behind it.

AMS packages are highly complex. Your vendor understands what the AMS is capable of doing, but they also need to know what you need the AMS to do for you. In order to get the most from your AMS, you need to have a positive and ever-strengthening relationship with your vendor.

When was the last time you had a good, positive conversation with your vendor? If it's been a while, contact your vendor now. Have them over to your office, meet them for lunch, or just schedule a conference call. Start building bridges to the people behind your AMS. In my experience, the most successful databases in associations are those where there is a strong and positive relationship between the association and the AMS vendor.
