Test New Features of Your Database

When your vendor updates your AMS with new features, do you test them right away? Too often, when vendors provide new functionality, it is not tested until the day you actually need to use it. Then if it doesn't work (either because it truly doesn't work or you don't know how to use it), "the system" is blamed for putting you in a bind.

Any time new features are added, you should have a process in place that allows you to answer three questions:

A. Do you need to use it? If the answer is "yes," then
B. Do you know how to use it?
C. Does it work?

By having a good testing plan in place, you can avoid those panic situations where you need the new functionality but you can't get it to work.
