Tool 'em, Train 'em, and Trust 'em.
For some reason, this seems to be the most difficult tip to follow, but it has the most long-term impact. Simply put, you only have to do three things to get your staff working the way you want them to. Here's how it works:
- Tool 'em: Give them the proper tools, both hardware and software.
- Train 'em: Make sure they know how to USE the software and hardware you've provided. (This is where documentation can help.)
- Trust 'em: Now that you've given them what they need, trust them to do the job right. And if for some reason they aren't doing it right, go back to step 2.
